The Night Cometh!

We all love music, even if we can not all sing very well; for we as Christian’s singing hymn is an integral part of our Christian  service’ it encourages, motivate, rebuke or teaches one divine truth or another. Little do many of us know about the story behind such wonderful hymns?

There is a popular hymn sang by Christian all over the world; Abide with me fast falls the eventide.  This Hymn was written by Pastor Henry Francis Lyte, who had pastored a little congregation for over 24yrs in the south coast of England-Devonshire. The weather of this place was not that favourable to the dwellers; they were used to sudden death either at sea or from health complications. So they were used to the strain of the hymn. He became sickly, then his doctor recommended a change of environment ‘to soak up the sun’; that‘s his only hope of recovery said the doctor. With heavy heart he prepared for the journey and the Sunday before his departure in September 1847, he ascended the pulpit for the last time to address is congregation thus:
‘I stand among you today as alive from the death, that I may hope to impress upon you to prepare for that solemn hour which must come to us all, by a time acquaintance with death of Christ’.

With such strong words he begged them to put their trust in Christ the saviour. He commended them to the Lord in prayer and that same night at home in anguish he penned the words of the hymn abide with me. Next day he set sail to Nice in Francis in hope of a better health. Sadly  it was not to be, for just two months later on 20th  day of November he passed on into the Lords presence with the words ‘Joy and Peace’ upon his lips.
Friends Rev Henry’s ministry has ended, he has gone into everlasting rest, to his eternal reward. Death is inevitable, when he comes would you have served faithfully. Don’t leave your life as if someone has promised you tomorrow. Be transformed and continue to bear fruits according to your repentance.

Lesson Learnt
It is a spiritual waste of time, resources and energy to work only for clothes and foods

Prayer
Blessed Lord Jesus, help me today to live a life of purpose before the eventide comes on me and in my death let me rest in you (Amen)

As we begin a another day, you must know you are god, because Christ lives in you, if you ...

Everybody Should Win:The need to Learn how to Resolve Conflict

“Two are better than one, because they have good return for their labour” Eccl. 4:9 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” Hebrews 12:14 As a development consultant with some specialty in conflict management, working in the space for over a decade now, I can confirm that indeed life is inevitable without conflicts. But how we manage the process is key. The Bible references above reminds of the benefits we get from working together and also living in peace and above all the spiritual benefits. Living in peace facilitates holy living, which in turn makes us to see the Lord, in everything we do. This article will be a form of review of Gary Chapman’s book “Everybody Wins: Guide to Solving Conflicts without Arguing” (if you can please get a copy for yourself). The goal of everyone, couples or people in relationship should be to resolve conflict without arguing. We must first establish before proceeding ...

Prayer Mission Statement IV

Acts 10:1-8 “He and all his family were devout and God fearing, he gave generously to those in need and prayed regularly” v 2. We go a step further  in our family prayer series, before we round up it up with the next post by His grace. The suggestion in part IV is to formulate a family prayer mission statement, our praying should focus on our mission statement. Remember some couples of weeks back, we shared the issue of vision and mission statement together and through the scripture, we agreed that without a vision/mission statement people perish, people are stagnant or have no direction at all. Like said yesterday that as a family there is need to have or know the purpose and plan of God for our family. The statement could be written or not, but it gives your family direction. For Cornelius, he and his family knew they were meant to help the poor and pray fervently. They never used their position as a prominent military family to intimidate people. Their statement ...
