Prayer Mission Statement IV

Acts 10:1-8

“He and all his family were devout and God fearing, he gave generously to those in need and prayed regularly” v 2.

We go a step further in our family prayer series, before we round up it up with the next post by His grace. The suggestion in part IV is to formulate a family prayer mission statement, our praying should focus on our mission statement. Remember some couples of weeks back, we shared the issue of vision and mission statement together and through the scripture, we agreed that without a vision/mission statement people perish, people are stagnant or have no direction at all. Like said yesterday that as a family there is need to have or know the purpose and plan of God for our family.

The statement could be written or not, but it gives your family direction. For Cornelius, he and his family knew they were meant to help the poor and pray fervently. They never used their position as a prominent military family to intimidate people. Their statement was something like this, “pray and give”, this was what God would have them do and in verse 4 of today’s bible passage, God acknowledged it by sending an angel to inform them, that it has come as a memorial offering to him, and gave further instruction to expand the focus.

Your prayer should always agree with your mission statement which should agree with God.

Family Prayer Series III: ALIGN WITH GOD

Reading & Meditation Joshua 24:1-15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” 15c We bless God for another gift of a day. We are still on the issue of the praying family. Another suggestion in helping our family pray together is the issue of aligning with God. Joshua from our today’s, passage, understood God’s purpose for himself and family, and would have probably be teaching them, practicing and obeying them with his family as instructed by God in Deuteronomy. This made him stand to the end, and at his good old age, he was still with God and could declare for his family; that they are partner with the Lord, till death. For your family to begin praying, then you must align with God’s plan and purpose. Before praying as a family, the family purpose and plans must be known by all members involved, provided they can understand issues of life. Zeal without Knowledge

Reading and Meditation 2 Samuel 2:17-23 “… Turn aside to the right or to the left, take on one of the young men and strip him of his weapons” but Asahel would not stop chasing him” v 21 The passage meditated upon today is the account of the final battle that placed David finally as King over the house of Israel. It was the war between the house of David and Saul. The bible said the war that day was very fierce. Abner a great soldier and the commander of Saul’s army fled. As he was running, there was the young Asahel on David’s side, he was a good runner, but not very skilled in war, he chased him. Asahel had the zeal but no experience or protection for himself. He got killed even after several warning by Abner for him to turn back. Study the account for yourself and you might pick out one or two lessons for your life journey! Friend zeal without knowledge and specific strategy can kill. Even in our zeal we need amours for protection [Eph. 6:10 to the end] ...

Common Sense

Joshua 9:1-26 “The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not enquire of the lord. Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with then to let them live and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath”. V 14-15. The issue of using ones common sense has been an issue of division among the body of Christ, even in this generation of motivational speakers. Men are neglecting the place of consulting God on critic issues or even smaller matter like traveling. And some of this issues or matters have brought some great trouble to the body of Christ, individuals or some trouble the Nation is facing now. From the Bible passage above, (Exodus 34:11-16) we saw how Joshua, a great servant of God, with the Israelite felled into this trap of common sense, because humanly speaking, checking of the provisions of the deceptive Gibeonite, was what common sense would do, but for them, they’ve forgotten that their life or being has gone beyond commonsense, God has been givi...
