King 8:1-6; 4; 8 -37.
“About this time next year, “Elisha
said, “you will hold a son in your arms” 4v16.
“Go away with your family and
stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine in the
land that we last seven years.” 8v1
From the above passages from
the Bible the Lord we have us look at the importance of life’s contacts, those
we meet on/during our life’s journey and our day to day activities. From the
passages, we saw how the Shunanimite woman, met the prophet
Elisha and her story and that of her family changed forever. Because of the
positive impact, she made in the life of the Elisha her barrenness was
changed with a gift of a son who later died, but restored to her. In chapter
eight she again reaped the dividend of her contact with Elisha; her
entire family was saved from famine. On her return, after seven years with a
new leader on the throne her contact with Elisha helped restored her possession
that was already taken over by the government.
Do you think if her first
meeting with Elisha had gone bad, she would have benefited from all those
miracles and help? Definitely, the answer is a capital NO, so what impression do you
leave with those you meet, either for the first time or not, do you look down on people or
look for ways to be of help?
A story was said of a woman who
smiled at a sorrowful stranger, the smile seemed to make him feel better. He
remembered past kindness of a friend and wrote him a thank you letter. The
friend happened to be the woman’s former employer owning her ten (10) month’s
pay; He was so pleased with the thank you letter that he immediately left an
instruction with his accountant to call the woman and pay her, her ten (10)
months pay, with a large tip on it and a personal apology and a request to
return to work, if she still needs the job. What! All these as a result of a
simple simile that cost nothing!
Lesson
Learnt
Beware;
life’s contacts can become life changing!
Prayer
Dear
Lord, help me not to look down on people I meet during my daily activities. Help
me to look out for the best in them, in Jesus Name (Amen)
