Family Prayer Series II: Be an Example

Reading and Meditation

Matt 6:5-15
“You should pray like this: our father in heaven, help us to honour your name” v 9

We continue today with our family prayer series. As Christ calls us to pray, he wants us to show example; for him he showed example to his disciples, in praying. And from our today’s passage, he taught them praying format.
Like I said some weeks back, though Christ does not expect parents to be prayer experts, he expects them to be an example to their family. If you are not currently modeling a prayer life before your children or you don’t have a regular quiet time, now is the time to start one. Your kids need to know or see that you spend time each day with the Lord in prayer.
In addition to the individual prayer life of a parent, children should see their both parent prayer together. Their praying together is a clear statement to their children, even without a word. The marriage relationship is strengthens in the process, as each spouse hear the petitions of the other.
If you have not started, please begin now, because it builds your faith and love for one another. And for the single is a lesson for the future.

Lesson Learnt
Praying together as a couple strengthens the marriage institution and raises godly seeds.

Prayer Point
Lord Jesus, help me to teach others to pray, by praying myself (Amen)

Everybody Should Win:The need to Learn how to Resolve Conflict

“Two are better than one, because they have good return for their labour” Eccl. 4:9 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” Hebrews 12:14 As a development consultant with some specialty in conflict management, working in the space for over a decade now, I can confirm that indeed life is inevitable without conflicts. But how we manage the process is key. The Bible references above reminds of the benefits we get from working together and also living in peace and above all the spiritual benefits. Living in peace facilitates holy living, which in turn makes us to see the Lord, in everything we do. This article will be a form of review of Gary Chapman’s book “Everybody Wins: Guide to Solving Conflicts without Arguing” (if you can please get a copy for yourself). The goal of everyone, couples or people in relationship should be to resolve conflict without arguing. We must first establish before proceeding ...

Prayer Mission Statement IV

Acts 10:1-8 “He and all his family were devout and God fearing, he gave generously to those in need and prayed regularly” v 2. We go a step further  in our family prayer series, before we round up it up with the next post by His grace. The suggestion in part IV is to formulate a family prayer mission statement, our praying should focus on our mission statement. Remember some couples of weeks back, we shared the issue of vision and mission statement together and through the scripture, we agreed that without a vision/mission statement people perish, people are stagnant or have no direction at all. Like said yesterday that as a family there is need to have or know the purpose and plan of God for our family. The statement could be written or not, but it gives your family direction. For Cornelius, he and his family knew they were meant to help the poor and pray fervently. They never used their position as a prominent military family to intimidate people. Their statement ...
