Acts 27:27-44
“…
Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved” v 31
We
conclude the article on preparing for storm of life with the last two provisions
necessary for survival during even physical storms.
Supply Two:
Water
The
next supply is water, and one must have plenty of it. For Paul and
company, sea water would not be pleasant for drinking, because of it saltiness;
if it’s an hurricane experience on land, the water would not be safe for
drinking after a storm because septic tanks and other mass filtration system
would be compromised by damaged pipes.
If
they have not got enough drinking water before the storm imagine the discomfort
and trail they would have to bear after the hurricane passed through Jupiter.
The same is true for us if we try to endure a trial without God’s Holy Spirit
working with us and helping us (John 7:37-39, I Thes. 5:19). For Paul the angel
of the Lord appeared to reassure him of his safety.
Supply Three:
Shelter
Lastly,
the stronger the shelter, the safer we are, imagine someone standing outside
against 90-110 mile an hour winds with various objects flying past him! Without
a shelter, he or she would likely be killed or severely injured. This person
would suffer the full effects of this storm.
Within
God’s church we find shelter from the storms of the world as we build
relationships with others who want to live God’s way of life.
As
in a family, the only way to grow closer to one another is to spend quality
time together. We must also do this with our church family. In the process we
learn how to deal with and love different personality types and age groups and
things that help us learn how to work together more effectively doing God’s
will.
Prayer Point
·
Lord
Jesus, I make myself available for the Holy Spirit' help. Lord
Jesus, please help the church to return to her original purpose of providing shelter for
one another (Amen)
